groups, studies & classes

plant deep roots.

At Central, we deeply value community. We’re not a building. We’re people loving, encouraging, and relying on one another. We want everyone at Central to know that they have someone to turn to in both crisis and celebration.

We also deeply value curiosity. We're convinced that a childlike faith means asking really good questions. Faith and doubt are not opposites, but partners in a divine dance. Poking and prodding around in mystery is holy work, and this work is often best done outside of Sunday mornings.

We hope in the groups, studies, and classes offered each semester that you can find a way to build community and to be curious about your faith. We hope you find people to do life with and also that you grow and learn in the ways that you want to.

deeper groups

A deeper group is a gathering of 8-12 people who meet in homes, at church, or in coffee shops on a weekly basis to deepen their friendships, their knowledge of God, and their impact on the world. These groups tend to be long-term and usually spend time checking in with each other and also discussing that week's sermon or another chosen topic. If you would like to host or lead a new deeper group, let us know!

studies

We offer book studies, Bible studies, and more so that everyone has a chance to grow and discuss faith topics in a small group setting. We typically offer a study during Advent and Lent, along with other seasons. These groups tend to be short-term and predominantly discussion-based. If you have an idea for a book or section of the Bible or something else that you'd like to study, let us know!

classes

Classes are one-day events focused on a particular topic. These will often be more lecture-based, with some discussion and/or activity built in. Our hope is that classes will be a chance to learn more about Central, the UMC, a particular theological topic, or even to learn a new skill. If you would like to teach a class at Central, on any topic, please let us know!
